Welcome to the Lavender Hill Photo Blog!

This blog is intended for you all to see our work in between our website updates. Our updates are usually every 3-5 months, and there are so many weddings and events we do in between then…….so check back here often.

Among the pictures I may pop in some interesting information, or a cool poem or two that really catch my eye. Don’t be surprised if you see a little of what we do on our days off in here either!

Enjoy,
Dawn

I had so much fun with Kim and her mom over the year working with them on all the flower details. Kim did a ton of DIY projects including painstakingly gluing on little crystals to all votive and fluted candles ( I think there were about 100 all together) and buying all the apothecary jars and goodies for her over the top candy station. She went with shades of blush, rose and wine for the colors of the day. Lots of roses of all colors, beautiful red/burgundy hydrangea, and her favorite peonies were accompanied by interesting foliage and some cool shabby chic urns for the centerpieces.

When you get married at the same venue as your reception and it’s not blazing hot (kryptonite to flowers!) you can reuse some of the decor at the reception. We took all the gazebo decor down and placed the garland all along the front of the head table and put the gorgeous spray down as a long and low arrangement right in front of Chad and Kim. There is a time to double dip on ceremony to reception flowers, and this was a good example :)

Occasions LA - El Segundo

Jim Kennedy Photographers

This wedding was part crafty bride with tons of resources, and part fabulous floral designer! Jessica found one editorial photo from a magazine that spoke to her, and that is all it took. The wedding had unique vases, vintage fabrics, and a very shabby chic eclectic garden feel. So what did she do? Got on the phone and found out where they got the fabric, and the vases! Great idea for you DIY sewer’s out there http://www.reprodepot.com/ is the place to get vintage reproductions of fabrics from decades past. Her colors were lemon, chiffon, butter, sage, and white. Super cute trios of baby vintage vases with a wood base for the centerpieces, adorable buckets with ribbon handles for the aisle treatments, and we topped it all off with a “J” and an “M” monogram in flowers on the walls….loved it :)

Marriott Newport Beach

February 10th, 2009

Colors of the day were mango, cantaloupe, ivory, fresh greens, and a touch of soft blue. The bridesmaids wore Windsor blue cocktail dresses, and accented the color with just a thin ribbon criss cross to the bouquet stems. At the ceremony we added in lots of color and several arrangements to the existing foliage around the rotunda. Shades of orange rose petals lined the aisle with shepherd’s hooks filled with hydrangea, roses, and tails of dendrobium orchids. The reception centerpieces were square pave arrangements stuffed with roses! Beautiful :)

This one takes the cake on the wow factor…. Scott had lots of help from Lyndsey Hamilton to create the moment of a lifetime for him, and his fiance Aimee. He decided to rent the entire hotel, Seven4one (a brand new uber chic Laguna must see!)  for their family and friends to share in his proposal to the love of his life. Guests all arrived early in the day and the night before to gather up on the balcony overlooking the sunset for the big event. As you can see, to her surprise was all loved ones, and Scott down on one knee. Their cutie pie chocolate lab had her ring tied to his adorable floral collar handmade by moi. Loved, loved, loved it!!! After a YES from the bride to be all were escorted to the courtyard for a hip, chic, and fabulously decorated dinner party.

Heathers colors were eggplant and midori green. She wanted a very clean look with a pacific rim flair. Lots of cymbidium orchids both burgundy and green, green spider mums, eggplant calla lillies, bells of Ireland, and submerged stems of mini cymbidium orchids in glass for the centerpieces. As you can see in her photos, she and her bridal party are gorgeous….and her florals aren’t too bad either!

Hollywood Mitzvah

August 22nd, 2008

We collaborated with Chadnie and Jenny at White Linen Events for this fabulous bat mitzvah at Dove Canyon. Jessica wanted a vintage Hollywood feel to her event combined with modern movies on screen. Black, white, and gold were the colors with lots of details…. gigantic gold statues, film props, red carpet, staging, and awesome lighting. We decided to do two level arrangements on glass fluted vases with lots of bling acrylic ice in the glass. To top it all off, as the lights went down, the water submersible lights in the vases created a unique mood…

Rancho Las Lomas

August 1st, 2008

Ceremony and Reception Rancho Las Lomas / Lawrence Canyon

Kristen wanted a very lush, right out of the garden look to her floral decor. Very light and soft colors of cream, butter, blush, canteloupe, and sage. Her girls were in a tan color, and that same tone carried through on to the linens. The ceremony and reception were both outside amongst all the natural beauty Rancho Las Lomas has to offer, how can you go wrong with oak trees, rolling hills, spanish arcitecture, white tigers, parrots, and zebras??!! This venue is wonderful experience you and your guests will never forget. We used weathered urns for a cool effect on the centerpieces along with hydrangea, china mums, pin cushion protea, roses, stock, astilbe, curly willow, hanging amaranthus, and unique garden  foliage to complete the look.

Feather Accents

August 1st, 2008

Ceremony: Calvary Apostolic Tabernacle / Ontario Ca

Kristy walked into my office with one crucial element that she wanted to have throughout her decor…. peacock feathers. It was all about the peacock from the get go! If you look closely at a feather near the eye, there are gorgeous jewel tones to draw inspiration from; gold, champagne, chocolate, apple green, turquoise….there is even some rose color if you get the right light. Her bridesmaids wore chocolate dresses with mocha accents, we used lots of wrought iron in her ceremony.  Her colors she chose to go with were vibrant green and shades of brown. Two level candle lanterns adorned the aisle, and they rented a 14ft tall square/dome structure for the ceremony from Best of the Best www.btb-events.com. We dazzled it up with top to bottom greens, cymbidium orchids, Bells of Ireland, hanging beaded strands, curly willow, and feathers, and mini crystal votives for the bling factor. This was the talk of the town –according to Kristy after the ceremony people are still taking about it! Her father is the Reverend at their church, and her wedding was the first they have had in their new sanctuary. I had a blast working with Kristy and her family, it was an honor :)

Arroyo Trabuco

May 11th, 2008

Ceremony : Church of the Master Mission Viejo

Reception: Arroyo Trabuco Country Club

Jennifer absolutely loves hydrangea, and unique vines. Spring weddings really have an advantage over other months when it comes to floral selection. You can have just about every flora imaginable in the spring, including blooming branches and vines of all sorts. I would say her style was more of a New England/ east coast garden, lots of blooming jasmine, phlox, calla lily, roses, anemone, and dahlia accompanied all of the beautiful green hydrangea in the chocolate urns on the table. Arroyo Trabuco is a very rustic  style country club with lots of dark wood and tall ceilings with a beautiful garden area…. it was a perfect combination!
